Yes! A lot of people know they want their work to matter before they know what that career looks like. The Fellowship gives you experience across different organisations and types of work, helping you discover where your skills can make the greatest contribution.
Yes! There isn't one kind of person or one career path into for-purpose work. The sector needs people with different skills, backgrounds and perspectives. The Fellowship opens a pathway into the sector, including for people who might not have considered a for-purpose career before. Your lived experience brings a valuable perspective, and we’d love to hear what you’d bring.
Here’s the planned process:
- A written application
- A video assessment for candidates progressing to the next stage
- Interviews with Minderoo for candidates progressing to the final stage
The process may change if needed. If you need adjustments at any stage, just let us know. We’ll keep you updated, and everyone who applies will hear back about their outcome. We’ll keep you updated throughout the process, and everyone who applies will hear from us about the outcome. Every application will be reviewed carefully.
Successful applicants will start the Fellowship in February 2027.
You don’t need to be a pro at writing applications. Here are a few tips to help you move from staring at a blank page to getting it submitted:
1. Follow the cover letter prompts.
We’ve included them to help you put your best foot forward. They explain what we want to understand about you: what draws you to the Fellowship, how your experience connects to the criteria and what you’re hoping to explore.
2. Bring your voice.
A strong application helps us get to know you; it doesn't need to be the most polished. Go beyond saying you meet the criteria and let your story show how: the experiences that shaped you, what matters to you and what’s motivating you to take this next step. We want to hear your perspective in words that feel like yours.
3. Help us connect the dots.
We may not know your community, workplace or project, so give us enough context to understand your examples. What were you trying to do? What did you do, who else was involved and how did it turn out? Specific details, outcomes or numbers & metrics, where relevant, help us see the connection between where you’ve been, what you care about and where you’d like to go.
We’re reviewing applications as they arrive, so we encourage you to apply early.
This is the Fellowship's first intake. Future intakes haven't been confirmed, but we'll share more information when it's available.
The Fellowship is for people at the beginning of their careers who want to explore a future in the for-purpose sector. You might be finishing study, a graduate, have a few years’ experience or be finding your way into purpose-driven work. We welcome different disciplines, backgrounds and pathways, and you don’t need to know exactly where your skills fit before you begin.
Not at all! You can come from any discipline, and we welcome applicants with different academic, professional and lived experiences. What matters most is your motivation, your values and your willingness to learn.
You don’t need previous experience in the for-purpose sector. The Fellowship is a pathway into that work. What matters is your curiosity, motivation to do work that matters and willingness to learn. And yes, your examples can come from study, work, volunteering, internships, community involvement or your own projects.
You’ll need to be available to work full-time from February 2027. If you’ll still be studying full-time then, this intake won’t be the right fit. If you’re studying part-time and can meet the Fellowship’s full-time commitment, let us know your circumstances in your application.
The Fellowship is for people early in their careers, and that looks different for everyone. As a rough guide, this could mean up to around three years of work experience after your undergraduate degree. Work while studying is a bonus, not a barrier. Postgraduate study fits too, if you’re still at the start of your working life. Career changers are welcome if you’re early in your for-purpose journey and ready to learn from the ground up. If you’re unsure where you fit, tell us about your path in your application.
You’ll need full permanent Australian working rights to apply. The Fellowship is open to Australian citizens, permanent residents and New Zealand citizens. Temporary visa holders aren’t eligible.
Yes! You’ll need to relocate to Sydney or Perth for the duration of the Fellowship. Relocation support isn’t provided.
You’ll complete four placements over the Fellowship, contributing to real projects and priorities as part of each organisation’s team. Each placement has defined responsibilities and learning objectives. All placements will be in your base city: Sydney or Perth.
Across your four placements, you'll experience different kinds of for-purpose organisations and different ways of creating change. You might work with organisations that fund important work, support other organisations, bring people and resources together, or work directly with communities. That variety will help you understand how the sector works, experience different kinds of roles and discover where your own interests and strengths could take you.
You’ll work full-time throughout the Fellowship. Your exact working hours may vary between placements, depending on each host organisation’s needs.
You’ll join the Fellowship alumni community, staying connected to your cohort and the wider sector. A job isn’t guaranteed at the end, but you’ll have had almost two years to build practical experience, develop relationships and explore where you’d like to go next, giving you a foundation to shape your next step.
