Why you might love this opp:

Young Folks is looking for a Senior Strategist to help shape the next stage of our agency. We’re a Melbourne-based B Corp certified creative agency working with start-ups, scale-ups and established brands that want to grow, stay relevant and make a genuine impact. And they all have one thing in common: a challenger mindset and a thirst for creatively and commercially ambitious work.

This is a senior role with real influence, autonomy and growth potential. For the right person, it’s an opportunity to help shape the future of strategy at Young Folks and grow into a Strategy Director role over the next 2–3 years.

We’re a small team that cares deeply about the quality of the work, the relationships we build and the kind of agency (and impact) we’re creating together. That means high standards, direct conversations, genuine trust and plenty of room to shape how things evolve.

You’ll work directly alongside senior leadership across brand, creative and marketing projects for challenger brands and purpose-driven organisations who are on a mission to make an impact.

What's involved:

This role sits across three workstreams within the agency:

  • Brand creation: defining and launching new brands in market
  • Brand momentum: driving growth through campaigns, activations and ongoing marketing
  • Brand evolution: helping established brands reposition, rebrand or move into new territory

One week you might be leading a brand strategy workshop for a startup preparing to launch. The next, shaping the strategic direction behind a major brand campaign or working with content and marketing specialists to run a quarterly business review for a marketing retainer client that needs to respond to everchanging market forces.

Your path to becoming a strategist might be linear, or it might be a little more winding. What matters is that you have the judgement, writing ability, commercial instinct and agency experience to lead strategic work with confidence and without hesitation.

What you’ll do

  • Lead brand strategy, positioning and naming projects
  • Facilitate workshops and document clear outcomes
  • Write strategy briefs, rationales and recommendations
  • Present ideas to clients, defend the work and help sell strong thinking in
  • Shape campaign, brand activation and channel strategy in collaboration with marketing, content and creative teams
  • Liaise directly with clients and lead relationships from a strategic standpoint, in collaboration with our account director
  • Mentor the specialists within your pod
  • Bring opportunities, risks and recommendations to the table before they become obvious
  • Help evolve our strategy frameworks, systems and standards as the agency grows
Key criteria:

What we’re looking for

  • Around 10+ years’ experience in an agency environment
  • Strong experience across brand, creative, planning or integrated strategy
  • Excellent writing, presentation and facilitation skills
  • Strong commercial judgement
  • Confidence working across multiple clients and deadlines
  • The ability to move between big-picture thinking and practical execution
  • A high level of ownership, initiative and accountability
  • Someone who likes pace, pressure, variety and ambitious work, and brings a sense of play to the process

You’ll thrive in this role if

  • Balancing leading and doing
  • Getting started without waiting for perfect instructions
  • Spotting opportunities and risks before being asked
  • Making clear recommendations when there are several possible paths
  • Bringing solutions, a point of view and a sense of play
  • Having direct, respectful conversations about the work
  • Using tools and frameworks while keeping your own thinking sharp
  • Turning strategy into decisions, briefs, creative direction and commercial action
  • Holding the work to a high standard, even when time is tight
