Why you might love this opp:
🌍 SMART Recovery International (SRI) is a global leader in addiction recovery, delivering evidence-based programs that empower people worldwide to take control of their recovery. As part of a growing affiliate network, SMART Recovery Global (SRG) extends this mission with innovative digital tools and products, with the goal of making recovery accessible anywhere, anytime.
⚡ Our global impact:With over 3,000 meetings held across 35 countries each week, SMART Recovery supports tens of thousands of individuals — and we continue to grow. Our Handbook is now available in 13 languages, and we run dedicated programs for people in prison settings around the world. As the need for effective, accessible recovery support grows, we remain focused on expanding our reach and impact.
🚀As Financial Controller, you’ll play a key role in supporting this mission by strengthening our financial systems and providing insights that help guide organisational growth. Working closely with the CEO and senior team, you’ll bring clarity to financial reporting, support informed decision-making, and ensure sound stewardship of resources as we continue to scale.
💸 More than just numbers: This role goes beyond day-to-day accounting. You’ll manage core functions such as Xero, payroll, invoicing, and reconciliations, while also contributing to budgeting, reporting, and strategic planning. Your work will help ensure our financial foundations are solid — and ready for the future.
📅 What your week might involve: From preparing payroll and reconciling accounts, to reviewing funding reports and supporting international collaboration, no two weeks are exactly the same. You’ll help track spend, maintain compliance, streamline processes, and support leadership with timely, accurate financial information.
🧩 How you work: You might come from the NFP world — or you might not. What matters most is that you bring strong commercial thinking, sharp execution, and a knack for making complex financial insights digestible and meaningful. You’re not just executing tasks - you’re anticipating needs, helping the leadership team stay ahead, and offering financial insights that align with our mission. You’re self-directed, solution-focused, and thrive in global teams where clarity, pace, and trust matter.
⚠️ This is a remote (Australia based) freelance role, 8 hours per week, $80–$120 per hour depending on experience. We're specifically looking for someone who can commit for at least 12 months. This is not a stopgap freelance project - we’re after someone who’s ready to grow with us and stay the course. Preference for independent contractors, though a fixed-term contract option is available for the right person. Please include any preferences or availability notes in your application.
🌍 Global & flexible: Our team spans the globe, and flexibility is at the heart of how we work. We come together for a weekly 7:00am AEST call on Thursday, so please let us know if this works for you. Beyond that, we’re open to how you structure your hours, as long as you can regularly sync with the CEO and team to stay aligned.
If you're ready to make your mark, this is your chance to contribute to something bigger and fuel a mission that’s scaling fast.
