Why you might love this opp:

🏋 Confit Pathways is a transformative non-profit tackling Australia’s high recidivism rates head-on. Confit’s innovative model delivers relatable, high-impact programs in juvenile justice centres. What makes them different? Every program is led by individuals with lived experience of the justice system who have transformed their journeys into purpose through fitness and mentorship. They possess the unique ability to connect, build trust, and ignite hope in the young people they serve.

🔩 With big vision and inspiring leadership, Confit Pathways has rallied an incredible circle of supporters and gained serious momentum including being featured across SBS, Channel 7 & The Sydney Morning Herald, and supported by the Westpac Foundation, Snow Foundation and others.

⚡ You'll be joining a values-led team, with the founder and a range of advisors having highly impactful careers that inform their leadership. People, community, respect, trust and creative problem solving are core to their work.

💸 This isn't just a bookkeeping gig - it's a critical operations role that fuels strategy, stability, and sustainability. As Finance Officer, you’ll be the steady hand on the financial tiller, keeping the day-to-day ticking (think Xero, payroll, invoicing) while sharpening systems that track funding, support decision-making, and keep things audit-ready. The person we’re looking for? Reliable, accurate, sharp-minded - and quietly excellent.

📅 What your week might look like: One day you’re preparing payroll and reconciling accounts; the next, you’re reviewing cash flow, tracking grant spend, or helping the CEO make budgeting decisions with confidence. You’ll keep systems clean, grant conditions aligned, and reporting audit-ready - all while spotting ways to streamline, automate, and improve.

🧩 How you work: You’re probably already supporting a few SMEs or purpose-led orgs. You know how to own the detail - tracking cash flow, preparing budgets, reconciling reports - and lift it up into insights that support strategic decision-making. You’re sharp, self-directed, and comfortable being the go-to for founders who need clarity without complexity. Confident solo, collaborative when it counts, you thrive in that sweet spot where numbers meet nuance (and impact).

⚠️ This is a remote (Australian-based), freelance role (approx. 8–16 hours per week, ideally Mondays and Fridays), with flexibility to shape your hours. We're specifically looking for someone who can commit for at least 12 months. This is not a short-term or stopgap freelance project - we’re after someone who's ready to grow with us and stay the course. $60–$90 per hour depending on experience. Preference for independent contractors, though a fixed-term contract option is available for the right person. Please include any preferences or availability notes in your application.
What's involved:
To hit the ground running:

You’ll bring a clear-eyed, proactive approach to finance operations - balancing compliance, efficiency, and insight. You’ll be a trusted partner to the CEO, supporting day-to-day financial needs while laying the foundations for scalable growth.

To start, your focus will look something like this:

〰️ 60% Financial management: Lead and manage all financial operations - bookkeeping, fortnightly payroll, invoicing, reconciliations, timely BAS lodgements, and cash flow. Set up or refine forecasting, reporting and budgeting processes to help the CEO and Board make smart decisions.

〰️ 30% Grant tracking & reporting: Work closely with the team to align financial systems with grant requirements. Track spend, allocate funds accurately, and support with acquittals and funder reporting.

〰️ 10% Admin & operations: Occasional support across other areas where finance intersects and your skills shine - streamlining internal systems, automating workflows, or backing up general admin needs.
Key criteria:
How you can apply your skills towards this mission:
This role suits someone experienced, efficient, and quietly excellent - someone who knows how much impact good financial management can make in a lean and fast-moving nonprofit organisation.

📊 Finance All-Rounder: You've run the numbers for multiple small businesses or NFPs and know how to manage finances end-to-end. You’re confident using Xero, building budgets, and forecasting cash flow like a pro.

📁 Grants & Acquittals Whiz: You've helped NFPs or founders keep funding on track - setting up systems to align spend with grant terms, flagging risks early, and making acquittals painless and accurate.

🤖 Process Improver: You don’t just maintain systems - you make them better. Whether it's introducing automation, building dashboards, or creating better reporting templates, you love a good efficiency win.

🤝 Trusted Operator: You're a natural at building trust. You communicate clearly, deliver reliably, and bring calm, clarity and care to every touchpoint.

💥 Impact-Savvy: You get what it means to support a grassroots movement, and know that strong financial systems power strong social change.
