The Tasmanian Land Conservancy (TLC) is seeking a Communications Lead. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to nature conservation in Tasmania and join an organisation that offers a supportive and welcoming working environment.
The position is a new role and offered initially as a fixed-term (2 years), full-time (1 FTE = 76 hours / fortnight, with regular work hours negotiable), based in either Hobart or Launceston, Tasmania. The TLC provides a flexible work environment where a good work-life balance can be maintained. A remuneration package is offered based on TLC Salary Point 3.1 – 3.3 ($99,213 – $107,430 per annum pro rata plus statutory superannuation) commensurate with qualifications, skills and experience. We envision a starting date on or after the 11 May 2026.
What's involved:
The Communications Lead will work within the Philanthropy & Engagement Team to curate and create stories of impact related to TLC’s work in nature conservation, community, and leading research. Working closely with the Head of Philanthropy and Engagement, Communications Coordinator and Marketing Coordinator, this hands-on position plays a critical role in operating the organisation’s communications and marketing strategy, identifying and leveraging opportunities to amplify TLC’s voice, and expanding TLC’s supporter base through fundraising communications.

We’re looking for a tertiary qualified and dynamic communicator who thrives on collaboration, takes initiative, and is passionate about advancing TLC’s vision and values.
Essential Experience, Skills and Competencies
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in communications, fundraising, marketing, public relations or equivalent position.
- Proven experience and exceptional skills in writing, editing and proofing copy for a variety of publication platforms.
- A strong understanding of marketing channels and tools including branding, digital marketing, social media, eDM and more.
- Demonstrated high level communications strategic planning, logistics and project management skills with the ability to work across numerous projects simultaneously, prioritise workflow and meet deadlines.
- People leader with experience leading a team or liaising with diverse stakeholder groups.
- Demonstrated coordination of media enquiries, press releases and general media engagement.
- Experience or understanding of fundraising, including strategies, approaches and its role within a not-for-profit.
- Sound judgement and proactive approach to problem solving.
- Well-developed interpersonal, verbal and presentation skills.
- Experience with communication application software, website management and customer relationship management systems, as well as working with data to inform an insights-led approach.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a small, highly skilled team.
