The Communications Director will lead Climate 200’s external communications, earned media strategy, and voter persuasion efforts through to the next federal election and beyond. This is an executive leadership role responsible for delivering high-impact communications campaigns that will help grow the community independents movement.
The role combines strategic leadership with operational excellence. It will drive sophisticated multi-channel persuasion campaigns, and maintain strong relationships across media, political, advocacy, and movement stakeholders.
The successful candidate will bring deep experience in political or advocacy campaigning, earned media, and leadership. They will be highly strategic, politically astute, and capable of operating effectively in fast-moving and high-pressure environments.
This role is Flexible and can be done from anywhere in Australia. If you are located in Melbourne, Sydney or the Gold Coast, we have offices you can work from.

Key responsibilities
- Develop and lead Climate 200’s overarching communications and media strategy, aligned with organisational and electoral objectives.
- Lead a sophisticated earned media strategy that increases Climate 200’s reach, influence, and impact, and supports electoral goals.
- Identify and respond to political and media opportunities.
- Provide strategic communications advice to the Executive Team and senior stakeholders.
- Lead the development and execution of highly persuasive, research-informed communications campaigns.
- Ensure campaigns are disciplined, data-informed, and continuously optimised to maximise impact across priority electorates.
- Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing communications and media team.
- Build organisational capability in persuasion communications, media engagement, rapid response, and campaign execution.
- Oversee communications planning, resourcing, and budget management to ensure effective delivery against organisational priorities.
- Support cross-functional collaboration across campaigns, research, fundraising, and operations teams.
Key criteria:
About You
- Extensive experience designing and running multi-channel persuasion advertising campaigns, ideally in political, advocacy, electoral, or movement contexts.
- Strong strategic judgement and political acumen, with the ability to navigate complex and fast-moving environments.
- Demonstrated experience building, managing, and leading high-performing teams, with at least 5 to 10 years of people management experience.
- Experience using research, polling, and audience insights to inform communications and persuasion strategies.
- Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building capabilities.
- Ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels, balancing long-term planning with rapid execution.
