Why you might love this opp:

We're offering $50,000 grants to individual Changemakers to deliver early-stage initiatives for young people in rural, regional and remote NSW. We know that rural and regional communities have big ideas to create a better future for young people in their community.

We also know that it can be really hard to find funding for early-stage work.

Backing the Future is providing $50,000 grants to back projects in NSW that are:

  • led by individual Changemakers
  • trialling and delivering new ideas
  • supporting young people aged 12-30

We are eager to support early-stage work that might not otherwise be eligible for philanthropic funding. For this reason, Backing the Future does not accept applications from registered charities or organisations.

We strongly encourage applications from young people themselves. If you are over 18 and have a great idea to back other young people in your community, we would love to hear from you.

Grant Round: Open 13 July to 19 August 2026

Grantseeker Webinar: 12pm Tuesday, 28 July. Register here.

Applicants notified of the outcome of their application in October 2026.

To be eligible for Backing the Future projects must be:

  • Delivered by individual Changemakers (over 18 years old).
  • Benefit young people aged 12-30.
  • Delivered outside of metropolitan areas in NSW. We use the Modified Monash Model to define remoteness, project location must be in an area classified as MM2 or above.
